Healthy Meatcakes

For this recipe any healthy meat can be used – lean pork, beef fillet, chicken or turkey breast. Many vegetables are used in this healthy recipe, so the dish is filled with vitamins and minerals. It takes about 30 minutes to prepare this healthy dish. A balanced dish high in protein that will help speed up your metabolism and therefore help you lose body fat. Eating a balanced diet will promote your lean muscle growth and healthy body functioning.

Ingredients – serving size for 2 people (70kg ideal bodyweight, physically active):

  • 200g of lean meat (we used lean pork)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 apple (150g)
  • 1 large onion (200g)
  • 1 carrot (100g)
  • 2 potatoes (300g)
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • fresh basil (you can also use coriander or parsley)
  • 1 heaped teaspoon of flour
  • oil for cooking
  • 1/2 vegetable stock cube or powder and pepper

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Place the apple, carrot, onion, potatoes, garlic and basil in a food chopper and blend until finely chopped
  2. Fry the mixture in a small amount of oil for 10 minutes and add seasoning
  3. Blend the meat into a mince and add into the cooking mixture
  4. Continue until the meat is cooked and the vegetables are soft
  5. Empty the contents into a mixing bowl and let the mixture to cool down
  6. Add the flour and egg, mix thoroughly
  7. Shape the mixture into small patties and fry them for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Enjoy!

Approximate Nutritional Information:

Protein – 28g with 20g of protein with high biological value per portion
Carbohydrate – 54 g per person, high in complex carbohydrates
Fat – 8 g of fat per person, low in saturates and high in Omega 3 and 6

Total calories – 400 kcal per person
